Devil's Advocates...

At the risk of offending readers ( especially those who ride big blue bikes)..I still have to rant..

I hate lawyers!!!! You Bloodsucking leeches ! Everything also got legal fees ..To get a housing loan, have to pay legal fees, for S & P, have to pay legal fees, all for agreements that DON'T benefit me if anything should happen. And if anything should happen, I still have to pay another bunch of lawyers to refute said agreements..Cis! And can still charge me for disbursement, but I have to drive to town, pay for parking, just to sign the damn agreement!

And said agreement? It's like signing a deal with the devil..at least it feels that way. No part of it benefits us, other than we HAVE to take a loan and hence, have to sign an agreement. And bloody lawyer, can't even bother to read, let alone explain the agreement to us, expect us to sign blindly without reading? What am I? Stupid?

BH feels I should charge more for patients who are lawyers..am thinking about it...

X = is fee for dental treatment
Y -= is fee for indemnity if you decide to sue me
A = fee for legal documentation if you decide to sue me , for my lawyers
B = disbursement fee + stamping

Your total bill = X+Y+A+B.. And amounts Y, A,B are dependant on fee for treatment, i.e 30%, 20 % and 5% of X..can ah?

I'm in the bloody wrong profession!

Oh..side note: The other profession I hate, bloody valuers..charged me 650 for a 5 minute evaluation of property after which, he used the selling price from the developer, which WE provided him..cilaka!

I'm not sure if you know this, but all the stuff you just mentioned, are legal/statutory requirements. They were not concocted by lawyers, but by the law. If you can afford the price of the property, the legal fees is just a weeny part of it.

It protects you too. It now gives you some form of right over the property purchased.

ignorant as i am, the signing of the POA la, the FA are all signing our rights away to the bank.

Unfortunately for us, the lawyer that attended to us, would charge us a fee, but did not have the courtesy to read through the agreement.

Its like some people who teach class but did not prepare for it, and still get paid for it.

So when we ask questions, baru that lawyer want to go read this and read that. Some more dare to say, this wan standard what.... if so standard, why the eyes blink so much, speechless for so long, and then have to refer then only explain...

That's because you are taking a loan from the bank! The lender would obviously have the last stay.

The lawyer was acting for the bank lar. But you're right, he should have extended the courtesy to you by explaining the documents even though he was not acting on your behalf.

aiyoh. i'm not saying you don't have the right to be angry at your lawyer, who obviously didn't explain to you properly about the whole transaction: but i'm also saying that you also need to consider the bank's view point. and the lawyer's view point.

you shouldn't think of it as "signing your rights" away. the bank is the one giving you a loan, they have more to lose than you do if you do default! otherwise what kind of security will they have if they loan you money? mere words and a promise to pay back aren't enough. now this won't be a problem if one pays cash...but not everyone is lucky enough to have loose change like that lying around, especially if it's for buying a home. if you service your loan promptly, then you will not run into any problems.

and unfortunately, nothing in this world comes free. we have to pay for everything, otherwise how to survive? we pay for our gym subscription, we pay for toll, taxes, petrol etc..i don't know if you know that lawyers are regulated by specific rules and law on their fees when it comes to S&P and loan matters. they have no choice but to charge according to what is prescribed by law. so many lawyers who have been found not following these rules have actually been suspended or disbarred!- it's that serious.

you should check out with some of your lawyer friends. one bad lawyer does not maketh the whole legal profession bad lah.

Actually, I agree with the last anon, who is the voice of reason.
The post of course, was not entirely reasonable. But it was the way I and Bh felt and since this is a personal blog..it's our personal opinion.

All the other anons, if you want to read someone else's emotional rants and take offense, stop reading. Don't click on the link.

Calvin: Which Jean do you think it is? Does it matter? This is not a public forum, it's a blog.

And for that reason, comment moderation shall be enabled.
